What is Physics?

Physics is the natural science of matter, involving the study of matter, motion, energy and forces. Physics is one of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, with its main goal being to understand how the universe behaves. Physics is may be the oldest scientific discipline. The position of the church as dominant philosophy decreased since Galilei included astronomy. Over much of the past two millennia, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics became a part of natural philosophy. Physics is the basics for with interdisciplinary areas of research, such as biophysics, electronics, optics, chemistry and quantum chemistry and even quantum biology as the latest development. Advances in physics often introduce new technologies. Advances in the understanding of electromagnetism, solid-state physics, and nuclear physics led directly to the development of new products that dramatically changed the society, such as television, computers, plastics, and nuclear weapons. If you bring a visit to the Weapon Museum in Paris (Musée de l'Armée) it will become obvious, that new inventions became the driving force behind the millions of death in wartime.

What is Biophysics?

Biophysics is a department of Physics. This kind of research tries to explain what happens in nature. Life scientists want to understand how biological systems work. These systems include molecular biology, cellular biology, organisms, and ecosystems that are very complex. Biological research in the 21st century brought a lot of data, due to the electron microscope, chemistry and scanning techniques. The structure of DNA was solved in 1953 by Watson and Crick, and this discovery was a major step forward to showing how DNA works like a blueprint for life. Now automatic scans can read at high speed the sequences of DNA of humans and all kinds of organisms, like viruses and bacteria.

Some researchers found that biological systems are highly depending on the electrical condition inside their body. On the inside, or central part of the body the potentials are positive, but on the extremities the charge is negative. Interesting enough they found that the regeneration in the salamanders starts electrical. When the tail or a limb was cut off, the nervous system directed more electrons towards the wound. This initiated the regeneration process. Other research found that also in humans the healing process is stimulated by electromagnetic frequencies.
